Our Project on BRAGECRIM
Goal of the project

Networking is an innovative approach, providing opportunities to small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to improve their competitive position for new and in existing markets.

Experiences of remanufacturing enterprises in Brazil and Germany shall be exploited and described to provide access to new business opportunities for new entrants and improvements of current remanufacturing businesses.

Networking small and medium enterprises for competitive remanufacturing

The results cover a set of criteria for identification of attractive remanufacturing markets, alternative business models for remanufacturing in particular for remanufacturing related product service systems, remanufacturing network configurations and incentive systems for overcoming challenges to remanufacturing.

In addition, guidelines to assist the creation of innovative business models are presented.

The Brazilian-German Collaborative Research Initiative on Manufacturing Technology - BRAGECRIM - is a framework program to fund and support collaborative projects between German and Brazilian research groups in the field of advanced manufacturing technologies. The main goal of BRAGECRIM projects is to generate fundamental technological knowledge, enabling the development of innovative solutions for improving productivity, quality and sustainability of both German and Brazilian industrial companies. Another important goal is the knowledge exchange through work and study missions of researchers and students of both countries.

THE BRAGECRIM INITIATIVE

Goal of the project is to create new potentials for competitive remanufacturing for small and medium sized enterprises in Brazil and Germany by providing a set of business models for key actors within application areas in various industries in Brazil and Germany.

Results of the project
Methodology

The methods carried out to reach the goal of this project are listed as follows:

  • Investigation of state of the art on remanufacturing literature.

  • Realization of qualitative case studies in Germany and Brazilian enterprises: Description of success cases and identification of current remanufacturing business models on different applications areas.

  • Realization of surveys with European and Brazilian remanufacturing companies and statistical exploitation of the answer sets.

  • Targeted communication in Brazil and within international engineering research consortium and associations to investigate companies’ involvement into remanufacturing.

Results until September of 2013

  • Three qualitative case studies on remanufacturing companies, two in Brazil and one in EU.

  • Participation and realization of a first survey in the FIMAI Exhibition in Sao Paulo in November 2012, aiming to define the profile and the current interaction model between remanufacturing actors in Brazil

  • Construction of a remanufacturing network model of interactions between actors in the remanufacturing industry

  • Identifiation of main attributes for remanufacturing business model creation

  • Identification of current collaboration and competition forms along the remanufacturing processes

  • Identification of the main application areas for remanufacturing and the challenges, motivations and network models on each area.

  • Specific survey about network interactions

  • Identification of laws that are easely complied with by the application of remanufacturing

  • Creation of the remanufacturing guidelines
